Resources for Military Families

Freedom Crossing Academy supports our military-connected students and families.
Freedom Crossing Academy is proud to support our military-connected students and families with a military kids club. The military kids club is designed to address the unique lifestyle of military families. Benefits to our students include easing transitions, meeting other military children who share similar circumstances, learning coping skills, and support through deployments and moving. Activities include monthly afterschool meetings, Purple UP month, and support for families; especially during deployments.
As a member of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, Florida recognizes the need to provide support to students of military families. Today’s military children and families experience unique hardships. They move frequently and must adjust to new living environments, schools and peer groups much more than their civilian counterparts. They live through repeated cycles of separation and reunion.
The compact rules are designed to:
- Facilitate the transfer of education records and enrollment
- Promote smooth transitions to graduation
- Promote seamless transitions for course and educational placements
- Consider circumstances for excused absences
- Facilitate eligibility for enrollment in school and extracurricular participation

Our Student-Led Transition Program
At Freedom Crossing Academy, we are proud to have a team of dedicated 8th grade student ambassadors who support new students as they transition into our school community.
These student leaders—many of whom come from military families themselves—play a key role in helping new students feel at home from the moment they arrive. When a military-connected student enrolls at FCA, our ambassadors personally welcome them on their first day and provide a guided tour of the school. To ensure a meaningful and relatable experience, we thoughtfully pair new students with ambassadors who also have military backgrounds.
For our younger students, we extend this support by involving military-connected peers from the same grade level in the welcome process. This helps foster early friendships and makes the transition into a new school environment smoother and more comforting.
Our ambassadors guide new students through their class schedules, answer questions, and help them get oriented to life at FCA. As part of our “No Falcon Eats Alone” initiative, they also join new students at lunch and help them connect with peers to ensure everyone feels included.
In addition, our ambassadors organize at least two after-school events each year specifically for military-connected students, helping them build friendships and feel a stronger sense of community.
For our ESOL students, we provide iPads equipped with translation capabilities, and military families are paired with military leaders to ensure a warm and welcoming environment.
At FCA, we are committed to making every student feel seen, supported, and valued from day one.
